- Wall (optional to have post it or small pieces of paper with letters on them and tape to secure to wall)
Warm Up
You can play the below listed video or complete 1-2 of these exercises:
- rolling and squishing playdoh for 2 minutes
- making fists and opening hands 10-15 times
- rubbings hands together then squeezing each finger one at a time on each hand
- touch each finger to thumb one at a time and in order starting with index through to pinky. Reverse and start at pinky back to index. Go slowly and do each hand one at a time
- bear crawl around the room or push up/plant for 15-20 seconds
Activity
Focus on letter formation with this activity. You can play the video and pause after each letter to allow your child time to copy it with exact formation. If they are struggling to make them small, have the make them larger and just practice making them formed correctly (using the same stroke pattern as in the video for each letter). If you can't access the video use the handwriting formation page at the bottom of this handwriting post.
If your child is not doing letters yet, focus on prewriting shapes including circle, cross, square and triangle. See second video for an idea (needing push pins and paper) to work on forming shapes and lines.

Break
3 Minute Sensory Break designed by OT staff
- Pick one activity from each color (starting with yellow, then green, then blue). Have your child complete the listed exercise for 60 seconds before moving to the next color. Example: 60 seconds of bunny hops (yellow column), 60 seconds cross Crawls bringing hands to knees (green column), and ending with Plank for 60 seconds (blue column). If they have trouble with the exercise, just tell them to rest and then get back at it until the timer goes off. You can do it with them to increase their motivation!
- Get exercise list here!
- You can do these 3 minute breaks throughout the day and there are lots of options! If you have access to printing option, you can print, cut and separate each color into a jar, box, envelope for your child to pick one of each color to do!
Activity
Wall walks with letters, numbers, words or shapes. You can access the activity here or check it out using the instagram link here. The Instagram post shows options for how to display the letters, numbers, words or shapes and have the feet walk towards the targets to work on building those academic skills while addressing sensory and core strength!
Finish/Transition
Finish with an activity of throwing rolled up socks into a basket. You can show them the exact number of socks to throw so they will know when the task is complete and they are finished!
